This video documents the 3 month installation of the Creature at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California from October to December 2006 as part of the "Oakland: East Side Story" exhibition.

The Creature was set up in a blackened space. The presence of an audience would be sensed by a surveillance camera that would trigger the Creature to iterate a cycle of its process. This involved comparing its current state to the array of saved states looking for the best strategy to generate the most movement. These "memories" were the combination of past decisions dissolved into the information generated by a webcam of changing Oakland landscapes. The Oakland images provided the underlying randomness from which the Creature took its inspiration.
